Where Does “Fundati” Come From?
The Origin and Purpose of our Name
Fundati is a latin word, translating to: to be grounded; stable; close to the earth
So how did we come to choose this unique term?
It all started with a mission of creating space for so much more than coffee; a physical space that provides the type of energy and support that encourages one to take a step back and ground themselves in the present; to truly experience the little things in the moment.
Groundedness is a core term in mindfulness practice and our Founder, Alicia perceived it as a few things:
Being figuratively grounded in the mindfulness definition (stable; calm; present)
Consuming food & beverage as close as it comes from the Earth
Freshly ground coffee beans for every brew
After deep reflection on the term grounded,
Alicia knew she had to find a unique and unused concept to name the brand that somehow embodied the essence of its meaning. After much research and ideation maps, she searched through different languages from Sanskrit to Latin and finally found the word, Fundati.
Having family roots in Italy and Portugal, she began saying the term out loud with an accent, found herself smiling, then shared it with close family and friends and it stuck.
“Fundati” had the core meaning of groundedness, latin roots, and a “Fun” sound to it. It was a term not being used for any other business, making it feel unique enough to truly create our own meaning and feeling with it over time through our brand.
Every person that steps into our shop will have a slightly different feeling of the meaning and how it impacts them, because how we all come to being “grounded” is unique. Our call to action is “Find Your Fundati wherever you are”. Embrace that it can be every changing from moment to moment, and let each moment fill you up with presence.
