Presence, The Best Present to Yourself this Holiday Season
We have all been there: the highest highs and lowest lows of the holiday season. One moment you are singing your favorite tune, finding the perfect gift for your loved one, watching your child write their first letter to Santa, enjoying that cookie made by your grandma only once a year, and the next… you are stressed beyond belief, rushing around for that gift you forgot (or maybe all of them!), cleaning up the 100th round of pine needles on your floor, burning your dish to the family potluck dinner, coordinating chaos in your household and no one seems to be cooperating.
Relatable at all? Yup, we thought so.
And how did we know all of this is happening? Because it is normal, for all of us most likely, in some shape or form. It is no different than the non December, day to day roller coaster we call life.
Is it a bad thing though? No, at least it does not have to be
If your mindset has shifted and you focus on being present during each moment
What can we control here? Only ourselves; our actions and our reactions. Sometimes the reactions are to our own mind that wanders off outside of our control too.
Knowing this, and that we cannot control the high energy of the season, the emotions of others, the last minute fiascos that pushed our schedule behind, what we can do?
Take a deep breath and give ourselves some grace. We can also choose to notice the good moments amidst the chaos, to let those fill us up for longer, and to shake off the not so good ones. How to shake those off? Remind yourself you cannot control those, but you can control how you view it.
To sum things up, here are the two lessons:
Stay Present
Change your mindset, Change your experience
Happy Holidays,
